Ron Mueck

Some images of Ron Mueck's sculptures. Mueck does absolutely astounding, disorienting work. More here.

Does anybody know the materials he uses? Or his methods? Fascinating.

He uses some kind of polyester or silicone resin on top of fibreglass and adds pigments to the resin.

If you ever have the opportunity to see his works "in the flesh," so to speak, do so. Mueck's originally a photo-realist who came to dislike the abstraction of the photo. Seeing the works themselves is really quite stunning.

If you're in DC, the Hirshhorn has the "Big Man" sculpture.

Thanks. Just when I thought photorealism was an absolute dead end, Mueck comes along.
